The future of Cinema Under the Stars

The operation of Cinema Under the Stars is contingent upon the success of a new method of operation. The old model was not sufficiently successful to continue the program. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please visit the site for discussions.

*** The Next Film ***

*** Last film shown ***

October 16th, 2011 "Captain Blood" with Errol Flynn

Attendance last season was very poor, so much so, that I will no longer be presenting films, unless they are paid for in advance by sponsors who provide not only the funds, but also assistance with set-up and strike. So if anyone wishes to see these films continue, you need to step up to the plate to help make it happen.

Re-scheduling Notes:

Sadly, the debut performance of The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society with a showing of the film "Topsy Turvy" along with The Autumn Leaves Performance Festival was rained out again this year. But we are working on a new presentation for the spring, possibly in a Bucks County winery.

"American Graffiti" got rained out last year and so we will show it again this summer. June 9th is my birthday so we will have a big party. But also we are discussing having this film be part of a fund raising effort to help kids. Keep watch for details.

The Meadow Amphitheatre

A tour of The Meadow Amphitheatre has been moved to it's own site. It is still under construction but is available for you to review.

We need to rebuild the stage and the field for this facility to remain an asset to the community.

We expect to rebuild the stage out of stone and regrade the field to improve drainage.

If you would like to be involved, please stop by the Park Office and let them know.

Please refer to The Shakespearean Journal for the commentary & discussion regarding efforts to rebuild the stage.

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bucks County

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bucks County

Preparations are under way to do either

"The Mikado" or "HMS Pinafore"
in the spring.

Gilbert & Sullivan in Tamanend Park?
If you've seen the The Meadow Amphitheatre,
then you have an idea of what a program like this might be.

I have been suggesting this type of presentation for awhile now
and my most recent proposal is to have

The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society host an Afternoon of Operetta
presenting local and not so local Gilbert & Sullivan
and opera aficionados
on stage at Tamanend Park...

followed by an evening of
Cinema Under the Stars
with a showing of the film
" Topsy Turvy "
a superb film depicting the mounting of
Gilbert & Sullivan's most popular Opera "The Mikado"

This is part of the effort to present
Opera in the Park
.

If this is something you would like to see produced
and may like to help with,
please let us know,
either at the G&S Home Page or send me and email at IMS.

Benefit Perfromance for The Twilight Wish Foundation
The Michener Museum in Doylestown

July, 2009

On First Friday, July 3rd we had a performance of selections from the previous program of "Trial by Jury" and some new numbers by our soloists. The concert was a benefit for The Twilight Wish Foundation, an organization that serves older members of the society. The concert was held at the Michener Museum in Doylestown. It is easy to say the concert was a resounding success, as evidenced by the many comments from the audience members who joyfully participated in a few numbers and gave a good round of applause. Overall, I would say that our little G&S Society is off to an excellent start and we are all becoming good friends in our mutual love of the music. I offer my thanks to everyone who makes this a wonderful experience, both to the people who sing together and the audience who seems to very much appreciate what we are doing. AG

Saturday's show was a resounding success. The audience was great and the show came of very well for the debut of this new effort. There were many comments by people who were astounded that it was so professional. So I would say we succeeded. It was a great effort by a lot of people and a real coming together of people with a great deal of experience and others who have never experienced performing. It was a joyous collective endeavor and everyone was elated by the results. The audience members I spoke to seemed genuinely delighted and appreciative. Thanks to all who were a part of this experience. AG

We are currently in rehearsals with
for the April 25th presentation of
"Trial By Jury"

The program is presented with a 14pc Orchestra, with many members of The Bucks County Symphony. It is being presented at Lenape Middle School on Rt#202 near the 611 bypass in Doylestown. The second half of the evening will be a presentation of popular selections from The Mikado, Pirates of Penzance, Patience and others. The soloists in this portion of the program are highly acclaimed vocalists, alas not I (not yet). If you would like to recieve futher information you can send me an email or use the link to the left for the Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society. It should be a wonderful program (unless we melt down, which is highly unlikely) , but the rehearsals are very exciting. Purchase or reserve your tickets today. I'd appreciate your telling them where you found out about the show. AG
